Juniata River trip July 23, 2013

Juniata River "kayaking"

Thanks to help from the Dutch Navy the Royal Duncannon Navy was resurrected for a run down the Juniata River today. It was good to have the help of some real kayakers! We went from Ken’s Beach to Duncannon. The captains were Joe, Garrett and Taylor from the Netherlands. The trip was 3 miles or so. The Juniata water level was about 3.65 feet at Newport. The water was very low and Taylor and I got stuck after Garrett filled up Taylor’s boat with water. The Susquehanna water level was about 3.7 feet at Harrisburg. The trip took about 5 hours. I capsized a couple times and we had a naked kayaker problem.
Aqueduct Piers.
The Juniata Canal crossed the river near Amity Hall a long time ago.
The canal boats traveled through a covered bridge on top of these piers.

We will always remember Elmer Eddy, The White Oak River Trash Man He passed on today at 94 years old.

Happy paddling Elmer.
