Today we did our Memorial Day trip. It was a nice day. It was mostly cloudy but the sun broke through a couple times. This is the first kayak trip I have done in Pennsylvania since November 11. We did Sherman's Creek from Dellville to Duncannon. The water was about 3.3 feet on the Shermansdale gauge. There were just 2 of us. We had never done this trip before.
Our glorious trip leader, Diana cancelled out due to clouds!
Phil and I enjoyed a real nice trip. It was a short trip of about 8 miles and took 2 hours. This is a beautiful and quiet trip. There were only bird sounds and riffles to interrupt the quiet. The only problem is the steep takeout. After we got down to where you can see Hawk Rock we encountered some waves that were about 1.5 feet high. I got wet from the splashes there. The water is very cold for this time of year.

Does anyone know of nice take-out between Duncannon and Dauphin? This would be nice for a trip like we just took. It would add a little more time to the trip and avoid that steep hill. I know there is one right across the river from the creek but that is difficult to drive down to. I have done it with my truck, but would not try it with a car.

I would also like to know if anyone has ever done a trip on the Little Juniata Creek which empties into the Susquehanna River in Duncannon just above Sherman’s Creek. It looks like that small creek would be a lot of fun in high water if there were no obstacles. I have driven along the road and didn’t see any obstacles except for a low bridge which you could not get under if the water was too high.
