Juniata River paddle May 23, 2009

Juniata River "kayaking"

It was a beautiful day on the Blue Juniata! I paddled from Ken's Beach up to the first big wave down below Iroquois Falls. I could not get past that. The water level was about 4.4 feet at Newport. The trip took about 3 hours. The water temperature was about 21 degrees celsius. I had surgery on my knee last month. The doctor said this would be an easy knee surgery. You know, a walk in the park. It was arthroscopic surgery. I was supposed to be on crutches for a few days afterwards! I should have been recovered by now. Well, it seems the doctor found more damage to repair while he was in there. It has been very painful and recovery has been slow. On my last visit he said, “NO KAYAKING”. I am not scheduled to go back to see him until June 11. I don’t think I can hold out that long. That is why I couldn’t go on today’s Howe Park to Kens Beach trip. I later decided to put in at Ken’s Beach and paddle up through were I would not have to worry about rocks. Cliff and the rest of the crew arrived at that wave just after I did and we went on back to Ken’s Beach. Evil terrorists burned Amity Hall Motor Inn!
